Ryder is a top secret soldier, whose actual position in government is never learned, his team doesn't work under a very specific and regulated branch like the Army, Navy or Marines. He thinks he has his life planned out, become the leader of his team, find the perfect woman, which he even named, get married and have children. Grace is an Army nurse veteran suffering from PTSD after the recent death of her only brother. She never wants to get married and thinks that all relationships are not destined to a happy ending. All she's willing to have is a fling. But sparks fly every time they are in the same room. Ryder can't accept that he's found "the one" because she is nothing like what he had in mind. Grace will not accept that she is falling in love with him no matter what. She is very stubborn and likes to do things her way, thinking that if she doesn't she'll be showing weakness, which just makes her get into trouble each and every time. They are located in a very small town in Texas next to the border. Little does Grace know that her Ranch, which she has been renting out and has visited little is being used for smuggling, both drugs and people. Mysteries abound in trying to find who is involved and how they are doing their crimes.
I really liked the story even if Grace did annoy me a lot. She acted on her own thinking that she would get everything done better than with help. Even when she was injured. The ending is a cliffhanger though, I think there may be more books or at least one more as the people we least expect are plotting on how to continue with their crimes since they were not even suspects to begin with.
